All of these stories just prove that the media will go to such great lengths to sell a story, no matter the consequences that it may have on someone else’s life and how it will affect that particular person. I know many people could careless about these three girls but sometimes you have to think about if that were you and you were extremely famous and you had to justify everything you did to the public just because of how out of control the media has gotten lately with stars and their stories. The media has one job and one job only. Get the stories and sell them. They don’t care if what they are saying and printing in magazines or online is true; they just want their paycheck at the end of the week.
The media had a major effect on the internet and whether or not people are actually believing what they are being told, most of the time. Someone could easily post a story on a website and link it to inTouch magazine or Star magazine about any celebrity and call it the truth. This is why the internet should not be trusted when it comes to celebrity gossip or even any other type of information that the internet has on it. Now a day’s more and more people are learning new ways to hack into things online and you can never really be sure what to believe. Unfortunately the Kardashian’s were made an example of and in Kim’s blog she just tries to get the message out to everyone to not believe everything you hear and or see from the media. Some of these people really do believe these magazines and base their opinions off of what they read, so I guess that just sucks for those particular people huh?

The media and paparazzi suck for celebrities. I know as a fan of Perez Hilton's blog, he at least tries to get some truth to his stories before posting them on his blog. Most of these tabloid magazines are so harsh on celebrities. Everytime I hear something about a celebrity on TV or see something online, I have a tendency to think it's probably not true. Like you mentioned, tabloids need to sell their magazines and promote their websites in some way. If I were a celebrity, I would hate being exposed to the media. Take for instance Lindsay Lohan. Now, she's suing someone for 100 million dollars because she believes a commercial used her name if reference to alcoholism. The problem is, with all the stories out there describing her behavior, who isn't going to think shes an alcoholic and drug addict? She's never tried to clear her name either. At least the Kardashian's had an outlet to do so- through their blogs.
ReplyDeleteAs a huge fan of celebrities and their lives, I often turn the the internet to find out if a story is true. When Michael Jackson, Brittney Murphy and Patrick Swayze all died this year, I turned to the internet. Whether I looked at Wikipedia or just what ever popped up on Google. I still turned to the internet. But its sad that there has to be a down side to this all. Rumors and judgments. But do we ever once think about their personal lives that are at stake here? No never. But then again a part of me is like, do they attract these on their own because of their selfish actions?
ReplyDeleteI agree, I agree. It's like the saying, "Don't judge a book by it's cover"...maybe it's not, but sort of, actually, it's probably not. It sounded better in my head. But, as an avid People.com reader, I usually get my celeb gossip from there, which it is usually pretty accurate. Being a celebrity comes with a lot of baggage. I think there is a line that is crossed between the media and people's personal lives. Obviously, these people put themselves out their for the world to see, to either pursue a dream, such as acting, or singing, while others put themselves just to get a story or a name (Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, Bleh). No matter what, no one wants to have false stories about themselves for the worlds entertainment. Every week a new story comes out about Brad and Angie SPLITTING UP or Jennifer Aniston secretly met up with Brad, obviously people like to stir up drama and controversy, but they never take into account that these stories hurt people who have real feelings, and hurt family members (who aren't even in the spotlight). The media can be cruel, they have no boundaries, which is so sad. How great would it be to turn the tables on them one day and hit them where it really hurts? Then maybe they would stop. But, probably not.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Heath, the media always changes the story around! Its ridiculous how they can ruin celebs lives and make them be someone they are not. We have to know that following these celebs lives, that there is always going to be some altered truth to their stories. I am a huge fan of the Kardashians and when i read that magazine at my work and then follow Kim on Twitter, I realized that the magazine was all lies. The media can tear celebs apart. Some celebs love the negative attention and they do it to themselves but for the most part I think the media should back off!
ReplyDeleteIt's so funny you tie this into the whole 'you can't believe everything you see' because the media does such a great job of promoting truth in things that are otherwise false.
ReplyDeleteThis got me thinking of the 'As Seen on TV' infomercials. The things they advertise are a complete waste of money and time. These commercials spend a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of up to an hour promoting useless products such as Shoes Under or ShakeWeight or Point n' Paint or the goshdarn Snuggie. You sit there amazed as to the innovation that is a backwards bathrobe and by the end you are CONVINCED you need it. But .. you don't. Anywho. I agree when you say "The media had a major effect on the internet and whether or not people are actually believing what they are being told".
As all of you are, I am too one of those people who is interested in the life of celebrities and I think its sad and annoying how the media twists and turns what is going on in a celebrities life especially when it gets personal. It's so dumb!
ReplyDeleteAnyways I agree with Rachel, all those as seen on TV commercials try to drag you into buying them products because you "need" them and their "cool & new", but most of them don't even work.
I really hate those ads online that pop up out of no where saying you "got a free iPod", like seriously just get out me face. thanks.
It does suck for the celebrities but the tabloids still continue to be a big seller and people buy them so it works for those magazines. Although the celebrity is under constant watch, that is usually what is expected when you become famous. People want to know about your life and what you are doing so they are most likely to have paparazzi following them and have stories about them. They make millions of dollars so its hard for me to really feel bad for them. The media is so influential nowadays and it will continue to be everywhere
